Pay to Enter Competitions

RACC has recently seen a number of examples of legal advice given in connection with the legality of pay to enter competitions, involving both an element of skill (e.g. a question)  and an element of chance.  In future, we will in most cases simply be asking the advertiser to provide us with full mechanics and conditions of the competition and, providing there doesn't appear to be any obvious breach of the law, approving the scripts on the understanding that the advertiser has sought specialist legal advice to ensure compliance with the Gambling Act and Gambling Commission guidance.
